Stillwater Community Arts is happy to offer the following workshops on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.! All workshops are $15 and last 90 minutes unless otherwise noted.

10 a.m. Workshops:
Beginning Embroidery:
Learn the fundamental techniques for successful embroidery. Using embroidery wools (crewels), hand dyed on a farm in Medford we will stitch a Tudor Rose. This class will run for both sessions with a lunch break in between. All materials included in the price of the class. Limit 10 participants. Michele Goldman
Juggle-rama!:
This workshop will focus on teaching the basic three ball cascade. Breaking this seemingly complex art into easy-to-learn steps, this workshop will have everyone on their way to becoming a juggler! More advanced jugglers are also welcome, and will learn more complex patterns and tricks. Open to all ages. Workshop is offered at 10 a.m. at Old Town Elementary School. Zach Field
Latin and Swing Dancing:
Shake, rattle, and shimmy. Enjoy Latin flavor by learning basic steps of Merengue, salsa, and samba, taught in a line dance format. Follow this by learning easy swing steps including basic turns, charleston and dips. Partner required for this portion. No previous dance experience needed. Seaglass and Shells Jewelry Making:
Preserve your summer memories by learning to wire-wrap seaglass/shells into pendants. Materials fee includes tools and materials needed to make 3 pendants. Beginners welcome. Workshop is offered at 10 a.m. at 54 Gilbert Street, Orono. Materials Fee $5. Limit of 6 participants. Ency Whitehill

Balloon Mania:
Balloon sculpting made easy! From the simple dog, to the complex motorcycle, this is the chance to learn how to create simple balloons into exotic animals and amazing shapes. Basic balloon twisting skills are covered as well as more advanced techniques. Open to all ages. Workshop is offered at 1 p.m. at Old Town Elementary School. Zach Field
Crystal Pendant Jewelry Making:
Capture the healing power of crystals by wire-wrapping a water-quartz crystal pendant for you and a friend! The class will have you make two crystal pendants. Beginners are welcome. Beginning Bookbinding Workshop:
Come to this beginning bookbinding class and learn about the single signature binding and its variations. The single signature book is a gathering of papers, folded in two and sewn through the center. Each student will make several hand sewn book models and learn how make simple bookbinding tools to start their own bindery at home. No experience necessary, must be able to use a sewing needle or be accompanied by an adult. Please bring a pencil, a pair of scissors, glue stick, and an apron (optional). Beginning Print Making:
Learn the different types of printmaking. These printmaking techniques will include fun and simple printing approaches as well as ones that take a little more thought and time. Everyone will go home with several prints ready to frame. Workshop is offered at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Old Town Elementary School. Materials fee: $3.00 Limit of 10 participants. Pam Dunphy
Encaustic Painting:
In this fun workshop participants will receive hands-on instruction on how to make and use Encaustic painting, the ancient medium of the Egyptians. Included are materials for the workshop ( waxes, pigments etc.) and hands on use and manufacture of this beautiful wax medium. Other topics covered: proper painting surfaces, explanation of types of waxes, brushes, hot-plates, general painting techniques, including collage and polychroming sculpture, and a discussion of the use of the medium throughout history. Improvisational Theatre:
This workshop will teach you how to think on your feet, perform scenes without a script and provide an understanding of the basic fundamentals of improvisational acting through performance and observation in a theatrical workshop environment. Stomp the Yard:
Be the Beat!! Using buckets, garbage cans, water jugs, sticks and body percussion we will create rythms and steppin’ choreography to rock the house. Storytelling, Song, and Signing:
A chance to learn the art of American Sign Language with music and stories. Open to all ages. Workshop is offered at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Old Town Elementary School. Ana Caballaro
Watercolor Painting:
